Music Makers -- by Bill Irvin
Music Makers                                                January 2005

The Christmas Party on December 12 was a festive event that concluded the club’s activities for the year.
Snacks were provided by the Garden Grille.  Thanks To Barb Scott for making all the arrangements.

There was a large turnout of members and guests who enjoyed the repast. A continuous three solid hours of
music was possible due to the 26 musicians who performed. There were tunes for everyone’s tastes. Included
were favorites such as "White Christmas', "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" and “Frosty the Snowman". On the
trad jazz side, selections included "China Boy", "Weary Blues", "Algiers Strut" and "Angry".

The entertainers were: Roger Boff-trumpet, Ed Ballanger-trumpet, Jim Davis-trumpet, Bill Irvin-cornet, Bill
Genson-trumpet and John Friday-trumpet. Reed players were Aid Harsch, Gary Kroal, Mike Kovach and Jan
Mudica, who also played piano. On trombone were Denny Smith, Red Evans, Marc Berridge and Jim Hronek.
Jeanne Arrendale, Bill Parthe and Jan Mudica were at the keyboard.

Ron Benach played banjo and bass, while other banjoists were Cecil Rankin and Dave Evans. Dave Marshall
played guitar and Russ Mortus was on banjo, drums and  vocals.  Lou Kunkle played bass with Kyle Snyder on
tuba and Fred Gilt on drums.  Vocals were delivered by Richard Starr and John Townsend.

Proprietors of the Garden Grille Sue and Rick Snyder were presented a plaque and a lifetime club membership
in recognition and appreciation for their providing a pleasant venue when the club was without a home.

A $2,000.00 check, representing profits from the fall festival was presented to the Summit County Kidney
Foundation.  In accepting the check on behalf of the Kidney Foundation,Lee Heidorf expressed the foundation’
s grateful appreciation. The funds will help meet the many vital needs of dialysis patients.

Garry Geist won the 50-50 raffle. Matt Heidorf won the American Rag subscription and generously passed it
on to Bill Irvin.
