Music Makers -- by Bill Irvin

May 2007
Due to some confusion about the dates combined with the
holiday weekend resulted in a sparse crowd for the club’s jam
session held on Sunday May 27. In fact, the musicians almost
outnumbered the audience! Nevertheless, those who did attend
seemed to enjoy the musical afternoon.
In tribute to the holiday, the session opened with “You’re A Grand Old Flag”. Some of
the other numbers were “Slide, Frog, Slide”, “I Ain’t Gonna Give Nobody None of my
Jelly Roll”, “You’re Nobody’s Sweetheart, Now”, and “I Get The Blues When It Rains”.
The musicians were: Barrett Taylor and Dave Smith, reeds; Red Evans, Denny Smith, Jim
Hronek and Dave Bair, trombone; Jim Emert and Bill Parthe, piano; Ron Benach and Russ
Mortus, banjo; Jerry Sanders, Fred Gilt and Joe Popchak, drums.
It was a profitable afternoon for one of the musicians: Joe Popchak won the 50-50 raffle
and $10.00 in the musicians’ drawing. Susan Dodge won the American Rag subscription.
Next jam session is June 24th.
