Night Owls -- January 2007
One of the largest crowds in several years showed up for the clubs'
concert on Sunday January 28th. One reason was the appearance of the
always popular Night Owls, a ten-piece band formed in 1980 and led by Ted
Witt. They play from the original arrangements of the jazz tunes of the 1920's.
The band members were nattily attired in tuxedos as was the fashion for many of the 1920 bands.
Band members were Reeds: leader Ted Witt, John Keppler and Al Hinkle; Trumpet: Al Couch and
Bince Monaco; Trombone: Bruce Lehtinen; Tuba: JC Sherman; Drums: Bill Fuller; Piano and Vocals:
GeorgeFoley; Banjo and Vocals: Phil Cartwright
Some of the tunes that got dancers onto the floor included: Baby Face, Candy Lips, Happy Feet,
Just A Gigolo, and Hula Lou.
The afternoon brought back pleasant memories for the older members in the audience.
John Putman won the 50-50 raffle and Bob Boston won the free American Rag subscription.
