Jam Session - November, 2006
The weather certainly cooperated with a beautiful sunny day for the Club’s
Jam Session on Sunday October 29, and helped contribute to the large audience
and number of musicians in attendance.
It was nice to see ragtime pianist Sister Jean Huling who was accompanied by
her grandson Kenan Leslie. Kenan inherited his grandfather Paul Huling’s
washboard and displayed his talents playing one set. He also found out there
is money in music when he won $10.00 in the musicians’ drawing.
The jam session musicians consisted of: Trumpet/cornet: Stan Ebin, John Fridy, Roger Boff, Al Kinney
(who also did vocals); Reeds: Aid Harsch, Barrett Taylor, Ted Witt; Trombone: Denny Smith, Jim
Hronek; Piano: Bill Parthe, Bob Boston, Jean Huling, Jim Emert; Banjo: Russ Mortus (and vocals); Bill
Parthe, Dave Marshall, Ron Benach; Bass: Lew Kunkle; Drums: Rich Fawcett, Fred Gilt, Russ Mortus, Jim
Chatterton.
There were no surprises in the tunes played. They were mostly ‘Evergreens’ such as “Dr. Jazz”,
“Avalon”, “Ballin’ the Jack” and “Radio”.
It was a pleasant afternoon of non-stop music right up until the final “Saints”! Karen Dunasky won the
50-50 raffle and Aid Harsch won the free American Rag subscription.
