Christmas Party and Jam Session -- December 11, 2005
The club concluded its activities for the year with a gala Christmas Party and
jam session on December 11.
Special thanks to Jeanne Dannemiller for the beautiful decorations and
contracting for the hors d’ouevres and two delicious cakes She was assisted by
EARLYJAS President Donna Townsend, her husband John and Bill Parthe (who
supervised from the bar).
There was a large turnout of members, guests and musicians for the gala event. The program
opened with a quartet playing “Jingle Bells” and “When It’s Christmas Time In New Orleans”.
All the musicians then played a warm-up session. They played “I Get The Blues When It Rains”
and “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love”.
Individual sets were then organized for the balance of the afternoon. The musicians were:
Trumpet/Cornet: John Fridy, Bill Smith, Al Kinney, Roger Boff, Ed Ballinger; Reeds: Barrett
Taylor, Mike Kovach, Gary Kroah; Trombone: Red Evans, Jim Hronek, Dennis Smith, Dave Bair;
Piano: Jim Emert, Bill Parthe, Bob Erdman, Jean Huling; Banjo/Guitar: Russ Mortus, Dave
Marshall, Jim Skidmore, Ron Benach; Drums: Fred Gilt, Jim Chatterton, Joe Popchek, Russ

Some of the Christmas songs were “Rudolph”, “White Christmas”, and “Santa Claus Is Coming
To Town”. Trad tunes Included “Darktown Strutters Ball”, “Shine”, and “Lazy River”.
A high point of the afternoon was when Festival Director Wayne Vetter presented a $5,000.00
check to the Kidney Foundation of Summit County Executive Director Lee Heidorf. The check
was the profit from the EARLYJAS Fall Festival. Lee expressed the Foundation’s grateful
appreciation and said the money would be well used to assist kidney patients with vital needs
such as medication, utilities and other expenses.
It was good to have Donna and Marlin Robinson with us as they have been having some health
problems. We hope to see them again soon.
The 50-50 raffle was won by Joe Popchek. Bill Parthe won the American Rag subscription. Bill
passed it on to Dennis Smith as Bill is already is a subscriber.
The afternoon was filled with the holiday spirit, good food and good music.
